The Catholic Bishops Conference has appointed Cardinal John Dew to the committee working on the Cause for the beautification of Suzanne Aubert. Cardinal John will be the official liaison for the NZ Bishops Conference and the Sisters on the committee. In accepting the role, the Cardinal said he was delighted to be asked by the bishops to the role for the Cause of Suzanne and commented that it would be a great blessing for the church in this time of challenge and disruption if the beatification of Suzanne could happen soon. Sister Margaret Anne Mills, the congregational leader of the Sisters of Compassion said she was delighted that the Cardinal had agreed to this role especially given his significant workload. The Cardinal has already been in touch with the Vatican to inform Cardinal Becciu, the president for the Pontifical Commission for the Causes of Saints, of his new role. The cardinals know each other from the time when Cardinal Becciu was the Apostolic Nuncio in New Zealand.
